Belfast Child: Motivating young people
Belfast Child CIC was born in March 2013 and founded by me. As I saw the need for a motivating 'off the street' programme for young people in Belfast.
A former business development and sales manager who, due to the continuing increase in health problems in young people saw the need for a motivating, health and well-being off the streets programme. Whereby external funding could have been an option for me at the outset, funding is not always guaranteed and if received, how long would it be for. A lot of organisations rely solely on funding and when it is no longer available the organisations cease to exist as they have no plan B or other revenue stream. It was important to me to ensure sustainability for the organisation, therefore using the same skill set as that of a private sector business I developed a sales model which would fund our own programmes. It was most certainly the harder way. It took me longer to get to where we are today and it most certainly has been an education but I can take great pride knowing that what I have created will benefit many young people for years to come.
